Overview

The 18th World Congress of the International Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (ISPRM) was held at International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney) for five days from 1 - 6 June 2024 in Sydney, Australia.

This was the first time the Congress has been hosted in Sydney by the Rehabilitation Medicine Society of Australia and New Zealand (RMSANZ). The ISPRM World Congress 2024 attracted over 1,500 delegates, with over 65% of delegates travelling to Sydney from overseas. The conference is estimated to have generated over $7 million to the local economy.

ISPRM serves as the global agency for Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (PRM), a non-governmental organisation in relation with the World Health Organization (WHO), as an international umbrella organisation of PRM physicians, and as a catalyst for international research, professional education, and a scientific mandate.

Business Events Sydney supported us in a number of ways. They put the idea into my head that it was possible to lead the bid, and they even travelled to Paris for the bid presentation… they were extraordinary.

Professor Steven Faux AM

Why Sydney

Key factors for Sydney's successful bid to host the ISPRM World Congress 2024 included Australia’s world leading expertise in rehabilitation, new advances in technology and innovation and the Australian Rehabilitation Outcomes Centre.

The Congress was secured for Sydney through the commitment of the Bid Leader, NSW Chair of RMSANZ and Director of the Departments of Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine at Sydney’s St Vincent’s Hospital, Associate Professor Steven Faux AM and organising committee, along with support from BESydney which ensured a strong bid presentation with clarity and strength of key messages .

This commitment combined with a strong bid presentation by BESydney highlighting key messages and NSW Government support made for a winning formula.
