Global Nature Positive Summit 2024

The Global Nature Positive Summit, co-hosted by the Australian Federal and NSW State Governments, was held at the ICC Sydney in Sydney, Australia, from 8-10 October, and successfully brought together global leaders from government, corporate sectors, research, and environmental institutions to address biodiversity loss and advance sustainability goals.

Summit Objectives
At the Summit, leaders explored effective ways to realise global commitments under the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, and how to accelerate collective action to drive investment in nature and strengthen activities to protect and repair the environment.
The Summit provided a platform for dialogue and collaboration with the objective to strengthen global and local environmental policies to promote sustainability.

Objectives included:
- build consensus on the economic settings needed to increase investment in nature
- share best practice and pathways for implementation
- showcase innovative tools and approaches to enable nature positive outcomes
- demonstrate commitment and progress towards the goals of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
Achieving Objectives
The Summit’s comprehensive program delivered on its objectives by combining keynote speeches, panel discussions, and interactive workshops. Delegates participated in targeted dialogues that encouraged collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and actionable commitments. There was broad agreement on the following key issues:
- Working to halt and reverse biodiversity loss to put nature on a path to recovery is good for communities and makes sense for business.
- Nature needs to be factored into economic and business decisions.
- Clear and consistent metrics are important to report on nature and progress towards collective nature positive goals.
- Nature positive and net zero objectives must work together.
- Indigenous leadership and perspectives are key to addressing environmental challenges.
