Social sustainability
People and communities are what make Sydney. We strive to ensure business events held here support local communities; encourage diversity, equity and inclusion; and contribute to social sustainability.
Diversity, equity and inclusion
Sydney is home to a truly diverse population and welcomes people with a range of identities, perspectives and experiences including people from different cultures, people young and old, people with disability, people with diverse gender identities, and LGBTQIA+ communities. Sydney is also among a select number of global destinations with Purple Flag accreditation, which helps visitors identify areas of diverse, vibrant and safe night-time activity.
First Nations
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are the First Nations people of the land we call Australia. There are hundreds of nations and each speaks its own language, with distinct dialects and cultural beliefs. The First Nations people of Sydney are the Gadigal of the Eora Nation.

Access
Access is vital to ensure diversity, equity and inclusion. In Australia, the rights of people with disability are protected by the Disability Discrimination Act (1992), which ensures access to public premises, goods and services and facilities.
In 2022, Sydney was voted among the 10 most accessible cities in the world by people with disability. In the city, most attractions are accessible by wheelchair and many are equipped with hearing loops. Our public transport is affordable and largely accessible, and our pedestrian wayfinding system includes a comprehensive network of braille and tactile street signs.

Economic sustainability
Innovation, business, investment and talent are central to a sustainable economy and event owners can be proud of the contribution they make to Sydney, New South Wales (NSW) and Australia.
Tourism
Every event has the potential to create significant tourism benefits. We know that many visitors who come to Sydney for a business event will be visiting for the first time; stay on average 3.6 days beyond the event; and most want to visit areas outside of central Sydney while they are here.
Greater Sydney and the state of New South Wales (NSW) offer you and your delegates incredible experiences, from quality restaurants and wines to stunning beaches and World Heritage wilderness.

Beyond tourism
Beyond tourism, business events drive the global knowledge economy and lead to opportunities for investment, trade, and international relationships. We have an established network that helps us connect business event owners to key players across industry, academia, civil society and government.
